The Derailers
Tony Villanueva and co-guitarist/singer Brian Hofeldt, both from Portland, OR, formed The Derailers in Austin in 1993 and quickly became a local live favorite. In 1996 they released their Watermelon Records debut album, Jackpot, to great critical acclaim. Setting out across the country, the band steadily won audiences with a sound most had never heard before: the sound of piston-drivin' backbeat hammer-ringin' Telecaster strum and steam whistle duet harmony. The sound of The Derailers - straight outta Texas.
"My favorite Derailers album. An exuberant burst of Buckophilia that's pretty hard to resist, what with its joyous mix of melody, twang, catchy lyrics and nasal choruses -- this is country pop like it oughtta be. It has exactly the same appeal as Owens' music had in the early 1960s: it's FUN. Produced by Dave Alvin, this one's a winner." --Joe Sixpack's Slipcue E-zine
