The eleven tracks featured on Sad Hours, which include five songs penned by Tucker himself, were recorded in Austin in 1989- 90. Tucker is ably assisted on various tracks by Derek O'Brien on guitar, Mel Brown on piano, George Rains on drums, and Kim Wilson on harmonica. Horns are provided by Mark "Kaz" Kazanoff, Keith Winking, and Jon Blondell.
For over 18 years, blues guitarist Luther Tucker played an integral role in the creation of the magic associated with Clifford Antone's "Home of the Blues" nightclub with his superb live performances on the Antone's stage. Additionally, he lent his guitar prowess to many of the fine recordings released by Antone's Records. His contributions to James Cotton, live with Matt Murphy and Luther Tucker helped earn a 1988 Grammy nomination. Though this is Tucker's solo debut, his long-held status as bluesman derives from his extraordinary body of work as a guitarist for some of the finest musicians in the blues realm, In a career spanning four decades, including the seminal post-war Chicago era, Tucker performed and recorded with Muddy Waters, Sonny Boy Williamson, Little Walter, Sunnyland Slim, Robert Jr. Lockwood, Otis Rush, John Lee Hooker, and James Cotton.
