The rough-and-tumble port city of Beaumont has rarely gotten its propers as a musical hotbed. Despite its environs having bequeathed the workd the likes of Blind Willie Johnson, the Winter Brothers, George Jones, Gatemouth Brown and Ivory Joe Hunter, the Golden Triangle is not as well-known as it should be.
Neither is Barbara Lynn Ozen, a.k.a. Barbara Lynn, the chart-topping, left-handed axe-wielding, songwriting, jawdropping Empress of Gulf Coast Soul. This disc should change that!
"Then there was R&B vocalist, Barbara Lynn 57 years young who cooly fought SXSW's tidal chatter at the bar during her slot at Antone's. When she reprised her 1962 hit, "You'll Lose A Good Thing", she did so with undiminished grace and poise, pouring a lifetime of blues and wisdom into her delivery and punctuating her climatic testifying with exclamatory stabs of lead guitar." -David Frickememoirs, Rolling Stone, 1999
