Steak was produced by Dave McNair, whose numerous production and engineering credits include Kelly Willis' acclaimed "What I Deserve", the Grammy-winning Los Super Seven album (and an upcoming follow-up record by the Tex-Mex supergroup), Texas funk-rockers Sister 7, a number of discs by blues avatar John Mayall, and a series of releases by underground roots heroes The Silos.
The Austin, TX-based singer, harmonica player, guitarist and songwriter serves up 13 prime cuts of deep blues, delving back into the music's roots, and then serving up a banquet of tasty and nutritious tracks that spice up the real blues with a special sauce all Forsyth's own. Joining the Guy Forsyth Band on the album are guests like acoustic blues master Steve James, Don Leady of Austin's Tailgators, and Forsyth's former Asylum Street Spankers bandmates Wammo and Stan Smith. With noted drummer Barry "Frosty" Smith (Lee Michaels. Soul Hat) signing on as a member of the Forsyth band, Guy and his combo further sharpen their dangerous musical edge. Forsyth calls the album a "thriller" filled with all-American music, distilled down to the essence of the blues. After taking blues to new heights and realms on his last two records, Forsyth creates a sound with "Steak" that is truly blues music for the year 2000.
