Featuring Angela Strehli, Marcia Ball, Lou Ann Barton, Sarah Brown, Barbara Lynn, Sue Foley, Toni Price and Lavelle White. The women on Antone's Records take their audiences past the pedestrian Top 40 precincts, out there where soul is made, not imitated. These eight artists range in age from 23 to 54, six are white, and two are black, some straight-ahead blues purists, some touching on the boundary between blues rock. The one thing these women have in common is a dedication to mastering their craft. Each is a singular talent. This package represents the first all-female compilation of contemporary blues artists ever released. These artist represent three generations of female blues artists in Texas, diverse paths have led them all to Antone's stage. These artists have a history of working together and influencing each other. Together they form a peerless community of female blues singers/ musicians/ songwriters/ producers. They have recorded each other's songs. They co-wrote. They sing backup on each other's records. They have recorded duets. They play in each other's bands. They have produced each other's records. Diverse paths led them all to Antone's stage. In retrospect, it all seems inevitable. These artists have found a way to live a little larger than life-sized.
