Austin, Texas is known worldwide
for the reverence its music scene holds for classic country music.
And no Austin artist is a greater devotee of genuine country music
than Justin Trevino. The singer and bass player (who is blind from
birth) began playing the Central Texas honky-tonks and dancehalls
in his teens, winning over fans with his rich and soaring tenor
voice. In recent years he's been heard playing bass and opening
shows for the legendary Johnny Bush and appearing on album and stage
with Austin sensations The Cornell Hurd Band in addition to his
own albums and shows.
The Scene of the Crying, Trevino's second Lone Star Records
album, finds the multitalented artist echoing the golden years of
country music with a modern savvy, and joined by some famed guests.
Rockabilly queen Wanda Jackson teams up with Trevino for a duet
on her song "What Have We Done," while Grand Ole Opry veteran and
Louisiana music pioneer Jimmy C. Newman makes a rare recorded appearance
with Trevino, sharing vocals on "Daydreaming." The rest of the album
is rounded out by songs made famous by George Jones, Tammy Wynette,
Connie Smith, Johnny Cash and Mel Tillis alongside new material
that recalls the time when the Grand Ole Opry was truly grand. Rich
with songs of heartbreak, longing, tragedy and honkytonking, The
Scene of the Crying is real country music for the new Millennium,
sung by one of the most masterful new voices to emerge in years. |
