FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (in reverse Jeopardy order)
Q: I want tickets to the [insert performing band's name here] concert tonight at Antone's. Can I buy tickets from you?
A: We are a recording company. The only things we sell are our CDs, our consultation services, and our souls. For tickets to Antone's, check out their website.
Q. What is the Texas Music Group?
A. The Texas Music Group vehicle is what allows us to transcend multiple music genres while maintaining unique identities (Antone's, Lone Star, TMG, etc.), fortifying product differentiation in today's homoginized marketplace without sacrificing economies of scale. The real reason is our distributor only wants to write one check per month.
Q. May I speak to the office manager?
A. I'm sorry, no. He is in a meeting right now; may I take a message?
Q. Do you have voice mail?
A. Not exactly. It's more like a digitized answering machine. We cannot transfer you to our mailboxes once we answer the phone. I will have to write down your message.
Q. What's the deal with Antone's? Is it a club? a record label? a record store? a sandwich shop?
A. Astoundingly, all of the above is true; however, each entity is now completely separate (but equal?). We operate the record label version. For night club schedules and info, click here. The record store is best reached in person at 2928 Guadalupe, Austin, Texas, 78705, but you can call them at (512)322-0660. Antone's Po' Boy Deli sandwich shops are sprinkled througout the Austin area, mostly inside gas stations. We seem to be the only Antone's moniker to have invested in a toll-free number, so if you are an out-of-towner, feel free to call us anyway. You won't be the first one.
Q. What's your phone number?
A. Toll free (800)96-BLUES. Ask for Heinz and speak with a German accent.
Q. I am a songwriter/musician/band/etc. Where do I send my demo?
A. Save the postage. We do NOT accept unsolicited material. Not means not. Please do not try to change our minds with your charm, soapboxes, anecdotes, or rage. Chances are you will be talking to our snobish bookkeeper, and he only likes music by The Velvet Underground (well, anything they recorded before 1968 at least). Thanks in advance.
Q. What is unsolicited material?
A. Good question. Unsolicited material is anything we did not request.
Q. What happened to the Antone's Bluesfest? I thought it was pretty sweet.
A. We pulled the plug after the second one. We realized that we need to figure out the recorded music business before figuring out the live music business. Been there? Done that? Buy the t-shirt.
